29.09.99 First day at a normal school.  Evie managed 1.5 hours in a normal school class room undertaking the same studies as other children.  For this term, Evie will be attending school for one half day per week.
06.11.99 Today we had our second workshop with our new Consultant from a London- based organisation called L.E.A.P (London Early Autism Project, tel: +44 (0) 171 736 6688). We have also now recruited our full complement of 5 tutors. The other big news is that Evie's symbolic play has improved significantly. She often asks me or my wife to play with her to take roles in imaginary play scenarios based on Disney videos. If you are interested in the details of the therapy have a look at the current programme.
27.11.99 Today Evie had an "unbirthday" party with some of current and previous tutors.
Christmas Day ! Wow.  Evie really enjoyed Christmas.  Now that Evie has some understanding of past and future, she was able to anticipate the big day.  She carefully opened her presents, and unlike previous years, she tried to play with her presents instead of the boxes!
New Year's Eve Evie managed to sit at a table for 2 hours (well behaved) at a NewYear's Eve party at our local church.
22.01.00  Evie's real birthday (7th) was on 20th January.  We actually hadher party (click here to see a short video) on 22.01.00.  We invited children that she knows from our local church and Rainbows.  The theme of the party was Alice in Wonderland !  Evie was full of anticipation and worked with her tutors to prepare parthats etc.  On the big day, Evie took part in all the party games (pass-the-parcel, hide'n'seek, etc.) and sat at the dinner table for 1/2 an hour with theother children. Evie's behaviour was 100% different from the last partywe had for her when she was 4 years old.  At that party she did notengage with the children and didn't sit with them.

Today we took Evie to the cinema for the first time to watch Disney'sTarzan cartoon.  We were apprehensive as she does not like dark roomsand loud music (the main features of a cinema!).  We tried to explain the cinema as a very large TV in a dark room.  After some initialhesitation, she walked into Screen 1 of a our local cinema.  She managedto sit and watch the film for 1 hour and about 30 minutes and she reallyenjoyed the funny scenes.  This was remarkable.  A real milestone.
09.04.00 Evie's attendance at school has been increased to two half days perweek - Evie is really pleased about this.

We have also had a number of tests (language, speech, IQ etc.) conductedon Evie to track her progress since last year.  We will post detailssoon.
