The current programme has been designed to allow Evie develop her language,
conceptual thinking, play and social skills without using an overt Lovaas
"drill" format. The new programme also aligns more with the typical arrangements
for learning in a school environment (longer tasks organised into themes,
e.g. literacy hour).
Circle Time
Objective – to practice mastered skills with one or more tutors where the tutors act as models and undertake some of the tasks as instructed by the lead tutor ("teacher").
Mastered skills maintained – Functions ("what is a pencil for?"), Categories ("what is a van?"), Songs, Counting, Register time, Weather and If…Then actions.
Story Time
Objective – to develop a number of receptive and comprehension skills.
Skills for development – Conversation, Emotions, Gender, Multiple Discrimination (Big Red ball, etc). Same / Different, Shapes and Absurdities.
Maths
Objective – to maintain Evie’s current understanding of numbers, counting and fractions.
Reading
Objective – develop her reading skills and test her comprehension of the underlying story and events portrayed in the book.
Evie is mainly reading the Oxford Reading Tree series and the Mr. Men series.
Snack-Time
Objective – to acquire social skills and to practice other mastered skills.
Skills for development – conversation skills such as "I don’t like yogurt…" and social skills such as "can you pass the plate..".
Writing/Worksheets
Objective - to develop academic skills to a level comparable to her peers.
Skills for development – Functions, Counting, Plurals, Spelling, Writing, Pronouns, Conversation Questions.
Drawing
Objective – to encourage Evie to develop her painting and drawing skills and in the long term to improve her ability to draw regular shapes (triangles, etc).
Games
Objective – to encourage Evie to learn the rules of "normal" games and to join-in with tutors and her "play dates". The longer-term objective is to teach Evie about the concept of competition (winning and not winning).
Games played – Hide and Seek, Mr. Wolf and other games that Evie
plays at her local Rainbows group.
Art and Craft
Objective – to develop Evie’s abilities to meet that of her "normal" peers.
Areas covered – Play Dough, Stencils, Paper Models, etc.
Transition
Objective – to teach Evie about past and future.
Approach – Evie has a daily Agenda. This is used to plan her daily programme. Evie has choices for her playtimes. This Agenda is used to discuss what has been covered and what needs to be completed.
